Skyler Henry is an artist whose practice is grounded in feeling, memory, and care. From mixed media art kits gifted by her mother to lessons in sewing and crocheting from her grandmother, Henry learned art as a language passed down through love and patience.
This early foundation evolved into a commitment to depth, intentionality, and expression. During her early days of creation, Henry was encouraged to incorporate embroidery and textile techniques alongside realism into her work. This exposed her to a process that honors precision and softness and continues to guide her work today.
Henry creates art to express, connect, and reflect. Her practice allows her to create a space where she can be present and resist urgency and spectacle while inviting stillness, contemplation, and emotional recognition.
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Henry carries an awareness of place, history, and resilience in her work. She has earned a BFA in painting from Howard University and briefly studied abroad in Rome, Italy. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Science and Industry, Miami Art Basel, and in numerous spaces throughout Washington, D.C., and its surrounding areas.
At its core, Henry’s practice is about creating space. Her work offers viewers a place to pause, to feel, and to delve into the depth of beauty as something intentional and sustainable. Skyler Henry lives and works with a commitment to softness as strength, intuition as structure, and art as a place to return to herself.
